Due to its geographical location, the coast of Anatolia has been one of the most important routes for seafarers throughout history. Iasos, a significant city in the ancient region of Caria, occupied a strategic position on trade routes connecting both the Aegean and the Eastern Mediterranean. Thanks to the topographical advantages offered by the mainland and the peninsula, the city possessed two harbors: an artificial one constructed within a natural bay and a natural harbor that utilized the bay in its existing state. Findings unearthed during excavations at the ancient site—classified as imported materials—indicate that these harbors saw intensive use over a prolonged period. This study aims to provide a comprehensive examination of the phases, functions, layouts, and forms of Iasos’s two harbors (the eastern and western harbors). Furthermore, a shipwreck identified during underwater surveys within the gulf, along with an intact amphora recovered from the wreck, serves as significant evidence that maritime trade was conducted in connection with the islands.
